They arrived on the train in a flurry of shared anxiety
The younger one spotting the table seats
And making a quick decision.
They subsided in relief depositing papers and bags.

A pause.
A calm.
An announcement.
A delay.
Soon rectified
And we’re off.

I keep my eyes averted, reading.

But soon I realise the newspaper has been smoothed and folded.

The Mail’s weekend crossword is in view.
The younger blonde head is frowning over it
The older one is consulted.
Frowns in concentration too.
A shared application to the task.
Shared tans. Shared fashion style.
Mother.
Daughter.
And ne’er a cross word…
