Wisteria
Rounding the corner of the church yard wall
walking, she reached above his head
on tiptoe
to gently snap the dangling blossom-cluster free
and plunged her face to savour the sweetness
without missing a step
and smiling at him to draw him in to her success
walked on by.

It was a shock to see the repetition.
Two hours later, after an afternoon of sun
the scent must have been drifting in waves from the warmed wall.
The woman was walking smartly along in the opposite direction. Alone.
Just out of direct sight, behind the cherry tree
she stopped abruptly
and turned her head to briefly breathe the scent
and then walked firmly on.
