I will arise and go now and go to Battersea,
And a new life begin there in London’s hurtling race.
Two bedrooms will we have there, a room with a balcony,
And live our lives in a sun filled space.
And we shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of morning with transatlantic wings;
There midnight’s all a glimmer and noon’s a purple glow,
And evening full of the frenzy helicopters bring.
I will arise and go now for always night and day,
I hear Thames water lapping, with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep heart’s core.
